Volunteers
Volunteering is an exciting and rewarding way to participate with Audubon. We are always looking for enthusiastic individuals or groups of people to support and enhance our programs. For more information about volunteer opportunities, please contact Dana Wilson, Volunteer Coordinator, at 214-370-9967 or dwilson@audubon.org.

Volunteer Naturalist
Volunteer naturalists, with their commitment to undergo extensive training, participate in continuing education, and schedule regular hours sharing a love of nature with the public, are the backbone of the Trinity River Audubon Center’s (TRAC) volunteer team. Because of their training, volunteer naturalists may assist in the classroom, teach classes, lead trail walks, or perform other responsibilities. The 4-week, once-a-week basic training program, followed by other on-going educational opportunities, is mandatory. 4-hour shifts, scheduled in advance; for those 18 yrs. +. A background check and training fee applies.

The Eco-Team
From caring for our critters in the great hall to keeping the bird feeders full to assisting in the classroom and on trail walks: we need the energy and curiosity of young learners in many activities. This opportunity requires training and a regularly scheduled weekly commitment of four hours per week for one semester (13 weeks). 13 yrs.+

Trailblazer
TRAC already has 4 miles of established trails, and more are planned for the future. Use your muscle to benefit TRAC’s diverse ecosystems when you help clear and expand existing trails, blaze new trails, remove invasive species, and restore prairie and wetland habitats. This is a great team-building opportunity, ideal for both youth and adults groups. 4 hour shifts, scheduled in advance. 11yrs.+ with adult supervision.

The TRAC A-Team
TRAC is the flagship for Audubon in Texas. Your office skills on the A-team (office administration) – in data entry, development of mailing lists, or creation of educational and promotional literature – will help us build our database of members from the ground up. Volunteers with a local history background are invited to help document the history of this property. Hours are flexible and pleasant work areas are available in the TRAC administrative offices. 18 yrs.+

Special program volunteers
Are you ready to volunteer at the Trinity River Audubon Center, but not able to make a regular commitment of time? Your energy - both indoors and out - in many aspects of our special programs, will give hands-on experience with our programs…and we, hope, lead you to become a regular volunteer. Check our website, http://www.tx.audubon.org/Trinity_Calendar.html, for a list of upcoming activities. Age limit varies by event.

The Science Survey Team
The Trinity River Audubon Center has been reclaimed from a former landfill, and we are excited to watch the return of native species which inhabited this area many years ago. Your knowledge of plant and animal identification will help us survey this 6,000 acre habitat and track changes to this environment as the reclamation process continues. 18 yrs.+.

Prairie & Wetland Restoration. The Trinity River Audubon Center is a spectacular nature center in the Great Trinity Forest; built on a site that was once a landfill. Volunteers can help recover the beauty and biodiversity of this property by assisting in a variety of seed harvesting, landscaping and land reclamation projects. This is a great opportunity for corporate or other group volunteer events.

Education Scholarship Fund
One of the largest growing needs for public school students in Texas is access to field-based experiences which are mandated by the Texas Education Agency. The Trinity River Audubon Center, with over 120 acres of wetland habitat, will be a living laboratory for these field-based science education programs.

Audubon is working to ensure no child is denied this important educational opportunity due to economic status. Partnering with local funders, we are working to establish a $5 million scholarship fund to deliver field-based science programs free of charge to Title I schools in Dallas County. For more information, please email trac@audubon.org or call Susan Houston at 214-370-9735 ext. 11.

Annual Fund
Your generosity helps fund our education programs in North Texas, and enables Audubon to connect people of all ages with nature.  Please consider an annual gift to support our efforts.  If you would like to make a gift, please Click Here.

Honoraria and Memorials
Give a gift to honor the memory of a friend or loved one, to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or special occasion.  An acknowledgment letter will be sent to the honoree or to the person of your choosing. For more information, please call 214-370-9735 ext. 11, or email trac@audubon.org.
